2018 CONNECTICUT GOVERNOR’S TOURISM AWARD

Connecticut has a vibrant and growing tourism industry, thanks to the many dedicated individuals and organizations that work together to attract visitors to our state’s diverse blend of offerings. The Connecticut Governor’s Tourism Awards recognizes those who go above and beyond to enhance both the appeal of our state as well as the health of our economy.

We welcome your nominations for these prestigious five awards. Nominations are due no later than Friday, March 30, 2018.

Connecticut Governor’s Award for
2018 Tourism Volunteer(s) of the Year

Many of our state’s destinations and tourism organizations rely on the commitment of dedicated volunteers. This award recognizes either an individual or a group of individuals who exemplify the positive impact volunteers can have on the success of Connecticut’s travel and tourism initiatives.

Who’s eligible for nomination:
Any individual or group of individuals not paid for the services they provide any type of organization in the travel/tourism industry, including (but not limited to) historic sites, parks and recreational areas, arts and cultural organizations and other tourist destinations.

Connecticut Governor’s Award for
2018 Tourism Rising Star Award

The long-term success of our industry depends on our continuing ability to attract and nurture exceptional talent. This award recognizes an individual who has joined the tourism industry within the last five years (and served at least two of those years in Connecticut):

  • has the skills and abilities necessary to excel in this industry
  • has already taken significant steps to make his/her organization as well as the state a more attractive place to visit
  • is passionate about promoting travel and tourism in Connecticut.


Who’s eligible for nomination:

Any employee of any travel/tourism-related organization headquartered in Connecticut who has been in this industry for five years or less (at least two of those years in Connecticut).

Connecticut Governor’s Award for
2018 Tourism Partners of the Year Award

The more closely we all work together, the more effectively we will attract visitors and tourism revenues to Connecticut. So this award recognizes two or more organizations that have come together to collaboratively market their offerings. We are looking for partnering organizations that have:

  • successfully worked together to promote Connecticut as an attractive place to visit
  • developed innovative ways to accentuate each other’s strengths
  • enhanced the visitor’s total experience of Connecticut and our diverse blend of offerings

Who’s eligible for nomination:
Any group of two or more separate organizations that have collaborated on one or more initiatives to drive visitors/revenues to Connecticut.

Connecticut Governor’s Award for
2018 Tourism Leader of the Year Award

To ensure tourism continues to be a major contributor to our state’s vitality, we need exemplary leadership across all types of organizations. This award recognizes a committed, talented leader who has accomplished the following over the past year:

  • made his/her organization as well as the state a more attractive place to visit
  • inspired others with his/her vision for enhancing our state’s appeal to visitors, both within as well as outside our state
  • demonstrated keen abilities to build tourism/travel revenues
  • championed the value of travel and tourism to the Connecticut economy.

Who’s eligible for nomination:
Any leader of any travel/tourism-related organization headquartered in Connecticut.

Connecticut Governor’s Award for
2018 Tourism Legacy Leader

Our industry is strengthened daily by the proven expertise and inspiring vision of veteran leaders. This award recognizes an individual who has provided that type of exemplary leadership for the state’s travel and tourism industry over the past 25 years. We are looking for an individual who:

  • has a proven track record of making Connecticut a more attractive place to visit
  • serves as a motivational leader within their organization and across the state — and is seen as a role model for others within the industry
  • champions travel and tourism in Connecticut.

Who’s eligible for nomination:
Any individual who has 25 years or more of distinguished service to the tourism industry, at least 15 of which have been in Connecticut.
